Newbie has more info and questions

Sorry about not posting my price range. That's kind of a major factor. I'm looking to spend somewhere in the 18K to 25K range. I guess it depends on what I find and what deal I get.

Do hours on a boat mean that much? How about the Volvo engine vs the Merc? I've heard that for skiing 220 HP is the min you should look for?

Neither Merc nor Volvo make the engines. Marine engines are supplied by GM. The outdrives are made by Mercruiser and Volvo.

At that price range you have a pretty big selection. The boat in my sig was $23K Canadian with the trailer and all the gear brand new.Now is the time to buy if you got the money to spend. All of the dealers are hurtin this year, no matter how much they say they aren't on the show room.

What ever happened here? Did you buy a boat? Also on your hp rating question for skiing. When I was a young kid we had our own boats to get around the lake, just like we had our own bikes. I knee boarded many times behing a 10hp Merc including going over floating jumps. Our main boat in the days of smaller hp engines was an 85hp Force. There was nothing that couldn't tow from slalom multiple skiers to multiple knee boards to anything you could throw at it. I even tried barefooting behind it. In any event you can certainly waterski with much less than 220 hp especially with outboards.
