Hello

New forum member here from Kingston TN on Watts Bar Lake. I traded one of my bikes last weekend for a 87 SeaRay with a 3.0 I/O and a OMC Cobra outdrive. Boat ran out good on the lake and the guy told me he was having a probelem with the trim since he had recently changed out the trim motor but he hadn't gotten around to troubleshooting it.

I traded anyway thinking it would be a simple fix but as of yet I haven't gotten very far in fixing it.

I've tried the search function here off and on all day but have yet to found a problem like mine. First assumption I had was air in the system so I have been opening the manuel release valve and picking up the outdrive and putting a jack under it, then I would crack the filler screw and sometimes I could hear air spew out. I would then put fluid in until it ran out (which was very little) put the cap back on and then take the jack out from under the outdrive and it would go down as I was turning the manual release valve back in. Then I would hit my switch and it would raise up abt 2 inches, then I could switch it down the same amt of travel but that would be all it would do until I went thru that whole process again. I am getting voltage to the blue wire when the up button is pressed and getting it to the green for the down button but I don't actually hear solenoids clicking.

This unit looks differerent than the old one which I also have in that it must have solenoids mounted to the side of it because the old plug in the boat that matches up to the plug on the old pump goes to solenoids mounted on the port side of the engine and is not hooked up to this pump.

any ideas would be appreciated as to what might be the problem. I bet I did the above mentioned procedure 25 times and it's still only a couple of inches of travel.

Also can I run without the exhaust boot in place from the transom to the outdrive ? mine was cracked and broke in two on me so I ordered another since the dealer didn't have one in stock ???

Re: newbie here with a tilt trim problem

I fixed it this morning. It was pointed out to me that who ever had mounted the replacement pump mounted it upside down. Soooo with it being a gravity feed mechanism and not a siphon type there ain't no way it would work
