Sorry for this basic lubrication question, but I don't want to screw anything up....
I bought some 'marine grease' and have it loaded in my grease gun. While cleaning the engine I noticed a grease nipple on the distributor. How much does it take and how do I know when it's full (does it come out of any hole when full)? Also, I noticed in the owners manual it says to lubricate the starter with marine grease. Do I just apply some with my finger on the starter rod and gear teeth? Thanks in advance....

Re: Newbie Lubrication Question: 1976 Chrysler 75hp

1. Don't lubricater the bendix and flywheel teeth--it just throws the greas all over the inside of the hood.
2. spin the bendix by hand to raise it into the flywheel and using a small screwdriver or such apply a small amount of grease to the spiral that the bendix rides on.
3. The grease fitting is on the distributor mount. The distributor turns within the mount to advance the timing. Add grease until it appears out the top, bottom, or both. If the grease is too heavy, or the old grease is too thick, this will cause difficulty with turning the distributor. This will hang up the linkage and the engine will have trouble either shifting into or out of gear. This will also happen if the distributor belt is too tight. The distributor should turn freely and smoothly when the timing link is disconnected. (black plastic piece held to distributor with a shoulder screw)
