well I've used marine grade wood all over , used epoxy all over, sealed the top and bottom of the floor before installing. but i forgot to seal the top inside 5 inches of my stringers. . the bottom of my stringers are well sealed but for some reason i was thinking let the wood breathe when i left the top sides of the inside stringers bare......now im going to install the closed cell expanding foam . hoping the foam will bond to the wood and seal the exposed wood in there . any damage assesments out there.

it's basicly to late now, foam it. make sure you have a perfect seal floor the hull, and hope for the best. when in storage keep the bow high so hopefully any water that does get in there drains to the stearn drain.

Hey BB4C... if we all were perfect, there would be no need for the "Stupid Human Tricks" forum! ;)

What Tasha said.

Re: newbie mistake

if you can get a big can of thompsons water seal and dump it in the copmartment and tow/slosh it around erratically for a bit, pump it out and then repeat on the others it might work...

Don't even think about using this product unless you wants to bring your boat to a quick demise. What has already been suggested with the foam and storage will be your best bet, well, other than redoing the floor. If you foam the stringers in solid your hull should still be better than new. Re: newbie mistake

Ouch, I feel for ya. Never did that but did my share of mistakes. I wouldn’t depend on the foam to seal it but I would leave it alone. Look at it this way, if you want to fix your mistake you’d have to take the floor off, if it rots in ten years you’ll have to take the floor off, I’d wait the ten years. Oh and another thing, I'd keep this our little secret, the guy admiring your restoration job might want to buy that boat in a few years ;)

Re: newbie mistake

yes the stringers are well tabbed to the hull and they are about 15 inches high. and on the out side , they are completly encapsulated. at least they are marine grade . . woops i managed to seal the back 3 feet by the transom all the way to the top on the inside. ....im going to make it all up by mixing up a batch of , silica, grahite powder and blue epoxy tint and painting/sealing my transom...im wondering about tinting all my final epoxy coats blue.

Re: newbie mistake

Thompson' would be like using WD40, in fact almost the same thing. It would keep the foam from adhering and somewhat waterproofing the plywood stringers or anything else in the bilge. Thompson's has a great advertising campaign, but their product is useless...IMHO. Chief ;)

Re: newbie mistake

I was under the impression that it eventually dried like the superdeck products, which dry like paint...albiet slower and stinkier

I have used it on old canvass army tents with good success (seemed to dry out OK) but never tried coating plastic with it..

Re: newbie mistake

Thompson's is not a coating as it doesn't have any dryers in it, it will only contaminate a hard surface. Chief...sorry for hijacking this thread
