NEWBIE need help-Need shift cable?

Looking at buying garaged/great cond 1979 Bonanza-165 Merc. I/O - seller was shifting from fwd to rev & engine died every time shifted into rev-he said he would adjust shift cable-also said he has made this adjustment a few times over the years-cable needing replacement? adjustment just a quick fix? Please help the NEWBIE -Thanks TJ

Common problem...Replace the lower shift cable..look here....... Cable
