I have a 1990 Johnson 115 VRO. I'm trying to determine whether the VRO pump is still hooked up on this motor. I was told by the previous owner to mix the gas which I did on my first trip out in the boat. I found out a couple of days ago what a VRO pump is and what it does. Ok a stupid question...I don't see any obvious oil reservoir anywhere in the motor. Where is the VRO located within the motor? I was told to look to see if the oil side of the pump has been disconnected but...I don't even know where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Newbie question johnson 115 VRO

I just picked up a 40hp vro and My oil reservoir has two wires connecting to the motor, one brown and one ground wire,I think these are low oil warning ,,,also there is a small manifold of fuel lines behind my air box that lead in to a pump,so if you don't have this stuff I would say yours is disconnected.but I have only had this motor for a day so I need to do a little more reading on how the oil injection system works...this motor os much simpler then my 98 ficht to work on.

Re: Newbie question johnson 115 VRO

the manifold is the lines going to the engine (carbs and primer) from the pump. here are the disconnect instructions, see if it has been done.

VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.
