I'm attempting to put an old boat into service. It is set up with the standard MerControl and a seperate 3 button pod for power trim. (1977 Merc 850)

When I push the "IN" button, the motor drops down (it was stored in the up position)

When I push either the UP/OUT button or the UP button by themselves...nothing happens.

When I push the UP and UP/OUT buttons simultaneously...I get a click from the hydraulic pump assembly...but no up action at all.

I don't know which position the manual over-ride switch is in; but it does not turn easily by hand in either direction. I have not applied a pliers to it yet.

I'll eagerly await your response...I've never had a power trim set-up before; so I don't know where to go from here.

Thanks, Chuck

Re: Newbie Question: Power Trim Merc 850 Help!

I'm surprised that no one responded to this...I thought it would be a no-brainer for lots of people on here.....

It would appear to me that it's something simple...I know from the normal "DOWN" motion that the electric motor is OK and that the hydraulics are OK...

So; why won't the bloddy thing go up?

Thanks for reading...Chuck

Quick temp Fix.Take A screwdriver and tap on sol. With handle. This may free any sticking points. And get you going . It worked for me dont hit it to hard and break anything! Mine has been working 2 years after I done it.

Also turn manual over-ride to left to run. To right to open. I had to use pliers to turn mine.
Good luck, Tim

Re: Newbie Question: Power Trim Merc 850 Help!

Well; some progress today. I found a dis-connected wire. Fixed that and cleaned some other connections.

Now; the Up/OUT button works...the motor goes up.

The Down button still works fine.

Now, only the top (UP) button still does not work.

At least I can raise and lower the motor. I'll eventually get the answer as to why the UP button won't work.

Thanks all you guys, Chuck
