First off..Excellent site!!..lots of information..my hats off to the veterans here.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of my boat(as of yet).

I have a 1957 14ft aluminum with wooden rails and wooden transom that are/have rotted. The rails look like 1x3 screwed together, top rail of boat is 1/8" thick metal(hope you can visualize).

The transom is wood on inside of the boat, metal plate on the outside cover rear end.

I asked a few people here in town and suggest mahogany.
I am not rich by any means, but want the wood to say its old.

My wife and I are going to work on it this summer, cause we spend alot of time fishing and want to continue enjoying it.

We have used it for for over 10 years with the 10hp 1961 Johnson.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Newbie restoring 14ft aluminum

need a picture to give you the best advice. i have done many aluminum boats.

you can up load to a free service like photobucket.com then you choose the pictures you want( clik the little box at the bottom left of the picture) scrool to the bottom of the page, clik generate html, it will take you to the next page, scroll down to thumb nails clik on that and copy, then insert it into your post.

also if you are planing on posting pictures, you can use the Blue post reply or the go advanced, manage attachments, there you can upload , directly from your computer. besure you pictures have been resized to fit the format.
