hello guys. i am new to this forum, but am longtime into antique outboards.

my question is, im looking at getting a very nice 1964 16' corson boat, the boat is in great shape for next to nothing. the boat was at this house someone purchased, and it got left behind, the previous owner didnt want, and neither does the currnt owner.

-but- it has a 1964 evinrude 40 horespower "big twin" on the back, that visually is in really great shape, a little sun faded, but no scratches anywhere, it even has a new prop. the previous owner said it was only firing one cylender last year when he left it there tarped up. what do you guys think would cause this?

bad coil is #1 guess. they are a rather simple motor to work on. is it electric shift or mechanical?

Before you get too wrapped up in this boat, make sure there is transferable paperwork for it. Very often boats that are "left behind" are not wanted by anyone because they can't be registered. Same with trailers and sometimes even with the outboards, if the state in question has outboard motor titles.

Also, don't get caught in the "register it as homemade" game - in some states that doesn't work either. Where I am from (Louisiana) you have to show the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries receipts for all of your building materials if you claim to have built a boat and want to register it.

im sorry, the boat was a couple hours away. um is there an easy way to tell the difference from memory? ive never dealt with non-tiller steer outboards. i know it had two shift leavers, one for shift, one for throttle obviously. they were both cable driven? does that help any? sorry my inexpiriance is showing.

Welcome to I boats rebel:
Where you from?

In Michigan you can apply for a lost title with a bill of sale. If this is your intent. Be sure and get a receipt for both the boat and the trailer because you will have to license the trailer as well as the boat.

It will take some time to get it up and running, tune up,new water pump, and carb rebuild.
easy engine to work and and well worth the effort, dependable also
