Hello peeps.

New to the Forum. I just recently purchased a 1992 Forester 170 Sport with a OMC Cobra 3.0L I/O. The boat is in really nice shape for the age and runs great.......except I do believe a carb kit is in store for a winter project. I will try to get pics up soon.

BTW can anyone point me in the direction for a carb kit. It is a Holley 2bbl. I am sure I will need a number off the carb but just trying to start conv.

Thanks, Cory

Re: Newbie

Any autoparts store should have or be able to get a Holley 2 bbl carb kit. The kit won't be any different from an automotive 2bbl. About the lonly thing that may be different would be the power valve number and I don't think they come in the kits, anyway. You can read the power valve value on the rim of the valve. Just take the 'list' number off of the choke horn.

Re: Newbie

Nice boat. It must have been garaged?

Why do you think you need to rebuild the carb? Unless you really know you have an issue, I would just run some good carb cleaner addditive thru the gas tank, in fact several tanks. Be sure to fill the tank before winter and you'd be best off if you can find some non-ethanol gas in your area and be sure to use stabilizer, either way.

Here is a link to see if you have any non-ethanol dealers in your area. Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

Re: Newbie

Thanks guys!

It doesn't idle right and I do have Sea Foam in the tank. I have not even run a full tank thru it yet. I am not sure how old the gas is either. I have cleaned the carb with carb cleaner and adjusted the idle but it still runs rough at idle. I would rather rebuild the carb so I know it is done and have peace of mind. A tune up would be wise also. It as it still has the original plug wires (guessing because they say OMC on them).

From what I am told from the last owner it was kept in a shed/garage. I plan to keep it covered and in my pole shed when not in use also. Solid floors and very clean engine bay, so appears to be well kept.

Re: Newbie

Ok so now if I say I paid $3600 for it I assume some may think I got ripped off. I am mechanically inclined enough to tear into it and fix whatever might go wrong and as long as there are parts available. I think it was worth the money and am happy with it so that is what matters I guess. :)

All that matters is the fact that your happy and that it suits your needs. All the other mind boggling problems you encounter down the road is the fun part of being a boat owner besides splashing it lol

Enjoy does look like a really clean well kept boat.
