I'm looking at a boat, and it's missing the passenger seat and the rear seats that go on either side of of the motor. How expensive and how hard would it be to find/build replacements? It's a late 80's Galaxy 24' (or so the add says). Thanks.

The seats are kind of a non issue when it comes to buying a boat, the biggest thing to look for is rotten wood in the transom, floor and stringers, then make sure you get one with a motor and outdrive that you can get parts for.

Thanks. It's an 87, so i'm guessing I should be looking for a mercury outdrive only?

For the seats, go to I boats search feature, and look up boat seats. You'll find them.

The seats may be missing because there isn't enough solid wood left in the floor for the present owner to fasten new ones in. Boats of that age left uncovered outside can be a real mess.

I'm guessing the old seats were rotten and removed and the person that currently owns it discovered a large amount of rot in the hull and is cutting his/her losses

so if you really want to look at this boat. assume you need $2500 for fiberglass and wood to fix the rot, $1500 for seats and vinyl for the interior and about $1000 in miscellaneous stuff as you look at the boat.
