I just bought a 1992 four winns deck boat from a police auction "drug repo" for $50.00.
Anyhow the police, when they took the boat they did not winterize the motor, so the engine block has a exterior crack in it.
It is a OMC 3.0..... my question is... how do you tell what HP it is?
I need to take the exhuast manifold off to seal this crack and need to replace the gasket, but everyone is telling me they need to know the HP.

Re: newby to the I/O

based on some google searching it looks like there was a standard and HO version of the 3.0 that year and they used different exhaust gaskets. All the omc's I've seen have some engine info right on the carb cover. If it's an ho engine it should (may) be identified there. According to
http://www.piranha.com/OMC_Sterndrives.php
the HO version is 150hp and the non HO is 130.

badfrog,
FYI if it's a HO 3.0 ya need to run high test fuel. compression is over 10:1.
