Hey folks,

Just finished wiring my trailer with a 4 prong straight plug. Time to test things out...brake lights and turn signals are good, but I have no running lights. What's a good way to check for power at the truck side harness? Just probe the corresponding brown plug and ground? Then check just prior to each light with the brown wire?

Thanks guys!

check the brown wire for 12v dc at the pigtail on the vehicle. if power there connect the trailer side to the truck and check for 12v dc at the tail lights and if you DONT have power there start working your way towards the vehicle. i have seen faulty connections in the plug itself. factory fault in a brand new harness. so hopefully you wont find a major problem

Thanks guys. Looks like its somewhere in the truck side of things. No current at all coming out of the brown wire. Thought it might be the corresponding relay for running lights in the tow package and so I replaced that, but still no juice. Not sure where else it might be, but its not mounting up to be a fun time!

On some vehicles there are individual fuses for every light (left turn, right turn, left brake, right brake and left taillight and right taillight). So check all the fuses before ripping things apart and buying things to try. Could be one of those individual fuses blown...

Not that its super helpful, but I had the same problem with my 2006 F150. I never could find the problem, so I jumped the running lights to the license plate light.

Good luck
