A small suburb of Louisville, KY is under fire for hiring a convicted felon and drug user for Parks Director. The Director was recently arrested for possession of crack cocaine and drunk driving. This was his 9th arrest. He tendered his resignation.

The city council now wants to pass a drug screening test and backgrond check on all future employees and require random drug tests for all employees, including the council members.

The mayor and city attorney are against this provision. The mayor's reasoning is that the civil rights of the 100 some people employed by the city would be violated. He stated, "I will not submit our employees to un-announced drug tests. Our employees deserve the respect to not require this random humiliation.":(

WTF ??? I was always required to submit to a random drug test as a pharmacist and had no problem with the company requiring this. However, I was never tested.

How many here have to submit to random drug tests in the real world of employment??

I was never tested but I knew it could happen any time because I had access to servers in a highly secured area.

As a cop we got tested all the time. As a Jailer we got tested. 15 years in corrections and I have never been tested. I sure wish they would as it would run off alot of our riffraff.

Last 3 companies I worked for will. If you have any type of accident you are going to get tested. Sounds like the mayor has something to hide.

A friend of mine was tested at his job. He was not worried as he didn't smoke, drink or do drugs. His test came back high in opiates. After an intense meeting with the bosses and a conference with the medical facility he had to list what he had eaten for the 2 days prior to the test.It seems that the Poppy Seed Muffins he had for breakfast was the culprit.

Every place I've worked at (mostly auto repair, dealerships, ect...) had random testing, but I never got the call.

One place I worked at gave the randomly selected employee a "30 day study time" to pass the test....lol. That place had some shady management.

When I was a practicing pharmacist I would get the phone call that went, "Psst, hey dude, how can I pass my drug test tomorrow?" My response was always, "Don't do drugs you idiot!!"

I get screened a few times a year.

I suspect he objects because he and a few of his employees use them.

Personally, I really don't have a problem with people using drugs, and wouldn't have any problem voting for someone who had done drugs like marijuana into any office in the country, so long as they didn't inhale and didn't like it... or just did cokaine instead. Seriously though, this war on drugs is stupid and it needs to be stopped.
