Hi gents...
Next problem on the V6 , just came to replace the complete water pump including the pump housing and base , when i removed the base i noticed alot of play in the driveshaft both up and down and left and right , if i pull the shaft up so that the top bearing seats it runs smooth but when i turn it when it is loose it feels rough , I am thinking bottom bearing but what keeps the shaft located into the top bearing normally ?

regards

What you've seeing/feeling is completely normal.... Nothing to worry about, just put the new water pump bits in and have fun... :D

What keeps the shaft pushed up and into the top bearing it the fact that gears in mesh (pinion and forward gears) want to drive apart under load. As the shaft is turning forward gear pushes the pinion away, and the only place it can go is up, making the top bear run in its race.
