My 89 DT115 Suzi that I purchased sounded great out of the water, but when I put my boat in the drink it was a different story. Back pressure was killing the idle. So I put a can of sea foam in my racor and gas tank, ran it for a few minutes, and let it sit over night. Tried to run it again a couple of days later, again on land it ran great, in the water it would not rev up even with the throttle wide open. So after barely making it back to the dock I pulled it home to start troubleshooting. I put all new fuel lines & fuel filters. I pulled all 4 carbs off and cleaned them thoroughly. They were very dirtly. It looked like wet sawdust was in them. After reassembly and putting them back on I fired her up. She wouldn't pee! So I decided to change the impellar and while I was at it, heck put a new thermostat on since it looked to be in bad shape. I pulled the lower unit and started to back the impellar housing bolts out, POP, the first one broke, then the second, the third, and finally the fourth. What was supposed to be an hour job at the most turned into 5 hrs of drilling out the old SS bolts & rethreading to reassemble the impellar kit and housing. It worked great because she starting streaming again. I will be putting her in the water to test her once again. If she doesn't rev up this time (fingers crossed she will) what should be my next step? PS all 4 cylinders are firing 105-115 psi, which I was told was acceptable. Thanks.

Re: Next step, if needed.

did you replace the fuel lines that lead from the fuel pump to the carbs, and did you replace or look at the fuel pump to see if it was good?

Also when your motor didn't run on the water did you notice if the fuel pump ball was collapsed?

Re: Next step, if needed.

I have read your information but I have not seen any mention of a compression check.
This is the first thing that should have been done.
Without this you are wasting your time and money.
Do the test then we may be able to help you.

Re: Next step, if needed.

I have checked the compression, all 4 are firing at 105 to 115. I also had checked the fuel pump and cleaned it. I took it out today for the first time since all of this troubleshooting and it still won't idle right or will it rev up past 3000 rpm's even with the hammer all the way down. It just struggles and sounds like it's choking or something like that. Any suggestions!
