Hello everyone,
Im new to this forum and to boating. I recently bought a Sea King 15' fishing boat that needed a new motor. The old motor (Johnson) was as I was told "not woth repairing anymore"). Well I recently bought a Mercury 80hp outboard motor, the problem is that the old motor and new motor arent connected the same way. Old motor has two cables on each side for steering. And new motor has only one handle like for steering. I would like to replace the steering system completly since its really old and extremely loose. I was looking at the NFB Steering kits for outboards. What else would I need. Want to keep the cost to a minimum. Would anyone please give some advice. Greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iboats. The motor should have a steering link with it and your steering wheel should have a tapered and keyed center. If you have those and some common tools, you're all set. Make sure that boat is rated for at least 80Hp.
