I looked up NFL rules and didn't see this mentioned or I overlooked it.

What constitutes off sides on the kick off?

I'm referring to the Green Bay vs Minnesota game in which the kicker for GB clearly had his non kicking foot planted past the 30 yard line before he kicked the onside kick. I guess this isn't offsides as the refs didn't call it on both onside attempts .

One more question.

Can the defense score points on the extra point attempt?

Let us assume the offense went for two and fumbled or was intercepted. Can the defense then return that try and score 2 points?

Re: NFL Rule Question??

From what I understand offsides on a kickoff will be called if any d-players other than the DEs moving past the snap. With the speed that rules change in the NFL it may be different now though!

Re: NFL Rule Question??

Off-sides on a kick-off will happen when any defensive player crosses the kick-off point before the Ball is kicked.

The Ball is dead if the extra point team fails.

Exactly FishyFish....... Excluding the kicker. If the kicker didn't plant his foot beyond the ball(at least his toes), he wouldn't be able to kick it. It would be a Charlie Brown kick.

Re: NFL Rule Question??

If a defensive player recovers a fumble or intercepts a pass and returns it for a touchdown that's worth 2 points on a 2-pt conversion attempt. That's what I've been told anyway. If it's a normal extra point I believe the same applies but I'm not sure.

A lot of NFL players say that the initials mean,"Not For Long."

Don't worry Tyme. Donovan McNab and Rich Gannon don't know some of the rules either.

Re: NFL Rule Question??

Slightly off topic but this was a new one to me.
During the Lions - Bears game Calvin Johnson (Lions) caught a ball and landed with one leg in bounds and it was a catch!:p
Apparently the rule is you need two feet or one foot and a knee in bounds.
If the foot and knee are on the same leg it is still good!
Who'd a thunk it?
