NGK or Champion

My 80-81 Mercury 7.5 manual lists a Champion L77J4<br />I've been told to use NGK B9HS-10. Are these the same plugs and if soo which one should I use. Is the BR9HS-10 the same as the B9HS-10. Or is the BR9HS-10 the resistor plug. Any info would be muchly appreciated <br /><br />Shawn

the merc parts catalog specs out NGK on newer mercs and champions on the older.any NGK with the R in the number is a resistor plug

Vahevala,According to my search your engine takes the NGK B9HS-10 plug.The BR9HS-10 is the same heat range plug but, is a resistor plug.Either will work.
