Nice Weekend Boating and Question

My family and I went camping and boating on Glendo Reservoir in WY. Water level in the reservior is near capacity and was nice! A little windy on Sunday. This was my second outing with this boat. It worked great all weekend. If anyone is around Wy, Glendo is a nice lake for boating and fishing.

Now to my question. I noticed on this trip that my gas guage wasn't working. I didn't run out of gas but I plan to fix the guage. Before I start taking things apart, does anyone have any pointers where to look first?

Thanks!

Re: Nice Weekend Boating and Question

I bought a boat last fall and the gas gauge wasn't working... I figured the cheapest and easiest place to start was replacing the gauge itself. The gauge ended up costing about $25 and now it works perfectly.

I was freaking myself out, thinking I would have to have somebody go into the actual gas tank and fix the sensor and it would cost a fortune, but thankfully that wasn't the case. I figure one of the most important gauges is the fuel, so I would fix it ASAP if you can.

If the gas tank is located below the deck (belly tank) there should be an access cover. Otherwise, if the tank is mounted on top of the deck, you should have access to the sending unit.

I'm assuming you've looked under the dash to make sure it isn't just a loose or badly connected wire or the fuse.

Next option would be like Fratalia17 said, the actual guage itself could be bad.

90% of problems are corroded connects, or sender going bad.
