I live in the North Atlanta area and we are thinking of going to the Nickajack area later this Summer. Anyone in that that can let me know if this is a good boating area? If not, what is in that area that would be better? Would also need a place (cabin) to rent. Thanks!

This is how it starts, hugh! You loose your water, now you want to boat on our lakes, all the while your state legislature now is talking about a War with Tennessee in a power grab to try to take some of our land away:

What, since you all had the Olympics you are better than us?

Just kidding man, I am a former Alpharetta/Rowell resident myself.

I would like to check out Nickajack myself (while its still Tennessee's), so I have nothing to offer.

Tims Ford is great. The simple way to see it is to rent one of the cheap cabins at Tims Ford Marina. They are quite comfortable and nice enough where the wife won't complain. There is a nice doc where renter can leave their boats in the water, a short walk from the cabins. They are a super nice marina, good food, plenty of bneer and refreshments, and good people.

We have also rented a couple of houses on the lake through Sam Hatfield Realty. They have always treated us professionally and come through on their end of the deal.

My avatar pic is from a Tims Ford cove. Also, we just rented a 3 story house there labor day (the big on on Sam Hatfields website). The water was so clear you could see the fish from the second story balcony of that house.

Don't forget the Aquarium! Worlds largets ;)

Actually, we are getting some good rains this year so far and Lake Allatoona is above average right now: http://water.sam.usace.army.mil/allafc.htm
Thanks for the information on Tims Ford, I may recommend that. There will be about 10 of us so we may need a couple cabins.

Re: Nickajack area

The large house for rent at sam hatfield realty has like 5 bedrooms, 3 levels, a boat lift, another boat slot, and plenty of dock space to tie up two more boats and still use the diving board. It would hold 10 of you all easily.

the only problem is that its for sale (something like 1.2 million), so we have avoided renting it ourselves for fear it would sell out from under us. However, the closer we get to the season the less I would worry about that.
