Long story short, I overheated my '77 85hp Johnson, and tore it down. New rings and gaskets and reassembled....no spark. I don't have the tools needed to test the electrical system (My background is automotive, not marine) so swapped some parts off an old motor that a friend had. Swapped power pack...no spark. Swapped rectifier...no spark. My wife kept praying about it and said that she thought it was something under the flywheel. Well, I ran slam out of options and listened to her, and sure enough....I nicked a wire at the trigger sensor during reassembly, and it ground out. Man, when my wife prays, God ALWAYS answers her. Anyhoo, I give credit to God and His faithful mercy for getting the old motor running again, and I want to thank all of the good folks that post tips for fixing motor problems in this forum. I read numerous replies with your insightful suggestions, and found much help and solice in them. Thank you all and may God richly bless each of you.
