I have boated at night, but never fished at night on a boat. I am planning on night fishing using my kicker (no alternator) on a HP restricted lake this summer. I have an 18' SeaPro with deck lights, chart plotter, nave lights, etc. I think a spotlight might be nice to have and worried about how much juice it will draw since I can't charge the battery with my main motor...Any recommendations on a good brand light that sips the juice? Any other night fishing/boating tips would be great.

You could consider something like this. This spot light operates on rechardable b-a-tteries or on a 12 volt cord.

Re: Night Fishing Essentials

I just picked up a couple of those LED utility light strips. I plan to run them, along with a couple of cigerrette outlets (lights, bubble airator, other) off of the deep-cycle battery, not the starting battery.

Also, if it means the difference between being stranded at night, or facing a possible fine, I'd think I'd start the main motor and let it sit at high idle to charge the batteries.
