Need some info on a night surveillance system for my oldest girl. This jerk keeps riding by and stopping and yelling threats in front of her home! All I have looked at have LED's facing the front that would be visible to the person being recorded! I want something that this meathead will not be able to see! Either that or I'm gonna (sorry can't say that here as it could be used against me)

rwise, are you sure those LED's aren't infrared LED's? They wouldn't be visible, but they cast a light the camera can see. Get a quality one though because the cheaper ones don't cast enough light if you have a lot of dark area in front of your house.

We have about 40 cameras and to make a postive ID at night would require a very high end unit

It can be hard to even ID a car make at night

Based on the neighborhood...... do you know who this guy is? Maybe he just needs some healthy advice........

How about a game camera? I have one that uses IR light and it is not visible to the naked eye when on?

I worked in electronic security for years... You will be surprised the stuff I have seen, photo and recorded. Did you already talked to the local LEO's? You might not even need to have a camera to stop this guy. That would be my first step before spending money in a security system. Remember, in the old times they did not have cameras, all it took was witnesses and that still works but if you still want to go with the security system...

First thing you need is a budget. Depending on it you might have to change your plan. Since I don't know the area I can't specifically tell you what and how to do it but this should give you an idea.

The more you know about what this guy is doing and how is doing it will help keep your expenses low and be successful at getting him recorded. Since th guy is screaming obscenities you need a system with audio. Your options are either a motion sensing system, either by image analysis or infrared detection or a system hooked to a time lapse machine or dvr.

A dvr might be better for you as it can be ran off a computer and the cards are cheaper than almost any time laspse machine. The dvr is generally recording all the time. If you opt for the motion sensing I would go for the one that detect motion by image analysis as they are a lot more reliable and sounds like this guy don't get off the car so you need speed.

By know you probably know the way the guy operates. So you need to set you cameras to give you a good look at the vehicle and if you are really lucky, the operator. That will be very hard to do with just one camera. Two cameras will be better. Your best bet is going with the regular cameras and put some lighting where the subject will be. Try to put the cameras outside of the light. Worst thing can happen is if the guy sees the light or/and the cameras it will stop. That will be good.

A system like this will run ya around $500.00 if you shop smart and are technically inclined.

Good luck...

All you need is a fast car and a baseball bat if you want my 2cents worth. Surely she knows who he is. why doesnt she just file a complaint with the cops?Years ago a friends sister had a ex boyfrend doing the same sort of thing. Her Father waited and after a short car chase and a FEW SHOTS FIRED OVER HIS BOW, the problem was solved.

Well this ,,, guy rides a crotch rocket, there is no tag, if the law sees him he runs and they cant catch him (or any others riding like that). Yes we know who he is and have restraining orders filed, but by the time an officer arrives he is 30 (or more) miles away. I would like to take his photo with my 30/30 ;) If we get video of him we will take it to the DA (as well as send a copy to the girl friend and post it on the net) :p

Mudmagnet I will keep that in mind :D

For now I am looking into options, we know that he hangs at a race track not far from here. When it lets out he shows up, but comes from all different directions. So we know about what time he will run by.

Thanx all!

Harbor Freight sells a night and day set up that is small and has night vision with a IR spot for about $35-$40. the Led has to be IR other wise would burn the night vision.;)

rwise,

How far is the street from your house? If it's over 50', your talking BIG bucks to illuminate something that far out. That would be "nightscope stuff".
But if your within the 50' or so range.......
Try going here. www.mcminone.com
and punching this in product search (top left of page).
82-11990 or 82-11996
and get 2 of these. 82-3530 (for additional illumination).
And just hook it up to a VCR for recording.

BUT...
Let me get this straight......
You know who it is. You know the time frame that it happens. The cops know and he has ran FROM said cops before.
Either "A", you live in "Hicksville", where he's a son or relative of a cop/mayor/counselman/bigwig in your area.
Or "B", you live in New York City, where their to busy to be bothered.

Solution to A & B.

A) Shoot the little Bast**D and vote the elected people out. That is, "if" their elected.
B) MOVE!

Just my 2 cents

Oh, and Windykid,
That Harbor Frieght camera is only good for your door step, good for 3' or so, may last 6 months.

Hope this helps....

Monofilament fishing line is nearly invisible and 20 or 30# test will take a rider off a crotch rocket.

Just an observation.

Teach your girl to shoot. You couldn't get away with shooting him, but she might. After all, self defense only requires a reasonable fear for your life. If he's violating a restraining order, there's a reasonable fear there. Heck, even if she misses him and only shoots up his ride... what's he going to do? He can't complain to the cops, they'll only arrest him, and he'll be too scared to come around anymore.

All this jerk is doing is yelling in the street and you want to take him out? Sounds a little extreme to me. Buy your girl a paintball gun and let her wear his arse out with it next time he stops.

They have a restraining order out on him, so he's done more than just yell from the street in the past. PLUS, he's not JUST yelling from the street, he's violating his restraining order and shouting threats. I know if it were me and my family, I'd tag his arse and then hand the gun to my wife. I don't believe a jury in the world would convict, either. Given the history and the credible threat that gives reasonable fear.

Re: Night surveillance camera/s

Lets get real here for a minute. If the guy is violating a court order the cops dont have to SEE HIM DO IT. The person who is having his/her rights violated by him only needs to go and sign out a warrant and have him arrested. Other than that you might go hire a real biker (hells angle type) and have him meet the guy as he comes up the street and then inform him that "the new rule says hes not to come by here any more" let him figure out what will happin if he does.......I promise that will solve it

I love the cowboy shooting suggestions :D Again, you know who it is, restraining order... You have a good feeling on when is he going to be there, you dont need no cctv. You can do this guy with witnesses or even a regular video camera. Go ahead, shoot the guy in the public ROAD that is driving by and screaming obscenities... How much is bail for that? Bad idea...

I can put the camera near the street in a tree, 20 - 30 feet max.

I live in Oakhurst, the LEO's describe it as 6 square miles of junkies and thieves:eek:. This case is handled by Tulsa county sheriff, and there are crotch rocket out every night (not just him) running 120+++ miles per hour on the side streets and highways. They cannot catch them, any of them until they crash!

Hicksville,,, maybe but we are free here, I can park on the grass, have a boat and an RV, build a fire in my yard, turn over a car and cut it up for junk if I wish and no one complains!

Solution *A* is doable! *B* is not an option!

Well,,,,, lets just say there is something about to happen;)

But he will not leave the center of the street, for her to shoot him, he would have to come into her home (we are working on changing this law;))
