1. The correct level is when the fluid is at the height of the upper hole, regardless of how much fluid you put in.
2. You never get all the old lube out, so you may (will) use less than the capacity.
3. Where does it say 12 ounces for the LU? Not in any owner's manual I have at hand... We figure to use about 10 ounces for the F4/5/6, including what dribbles out with the bubbles.
BTW on a related topic, NEVER add the 15.2-oz. "capacity" amount to the crankcase oil after a change, for all the above reasons, as well as the fact that overfilling, even a drop, is very bad. Always use the dipstick, and keep the level a little below the max mark.
