As their are no Nissan dealers in this area I changed the inpeller my self.

I was told just take out the four bolts and the lower unit will come right off.
Big mistake, I pulled the shift rod out of the lower unit, changed the inpeller and now cannot get the shift lever back in the lower unit. On futher inspection i see two small roll pins on the shift rod, should i have disconnected this rod at roll pins? Now What. C-Otter

Yes, the shift coupler typically gets disconnected at the lower roll pin, and the lower cam rod comes off with the LU. They are SS roll pins, btw, and should not be replaced with non-stainless pins.

See the parts catalog at http://www.internetoutboards.com/Pa...Catalog NS8B-9.8B (2003) - (002N21030-5).pdf

On page 27, you will see how the shift rod operates the wedge cam. You will need to pull the bushing (it uses both internal and external o-rings, which should be inspected/replaced), then pull out the wedge cam and get it re-pinned to the lower rod. That also uses an ss roll pin.
