That conversion is costly. Why do you need to modify LU lenght. In what size boat will the engine be used, is it for fast displacement or planing speeds ?

I am asking for an elderly fishing buddy who has found a longshaft,at a decent price, (950.00) but his jon boat has a 15" transom (of course). He is hoping the change over could be done at a reasonable price. I guess not.

Thanks for the response!

You might be able to use a jack plate. A non adjustable jack plate is pretty inexpensive and relatively easy to install. It's called non adjustable but there's really quite a bit of adjustment by moving the motor to different holes.

A Nissan/Tohatsu 9.8 is a clamp type OB, Other option is to make/buy a 5 inch transom mount. Screw it to transom and sit engine there. If eldery boater likes to cruise at fast displacement speeds not an issue using a long shaft on a short shaft transom. BTW which type, lenght boat and max HP is it rated for ? A jon is a alum boat ?

This is not a exact engine/transom match science doesn't matter if raising transom to 20 in while matching a long shaft engine. The ideal set up height will depend entirely on boat's hul shape, transom height and brand engine model used.
