Hi, I am a new boat owner. Just recently purchased a 15/48 war eagle boat with a 2007 Nissan 4 stroke 25 Hp engine. The motor I have is all stock with factory aluminum prop. With the set up I have now with two people in the boat it won't even get the boat out of the water. The motor checks out just fine I guess it's just slow as Christmas. And a few of the places I duck hunt around here have a 25 Hp restriction on outboard motors, so I can't just go bigger. I recently posted an add on Craigslist about trading my motor for a good 2 stroke with maybe some 30 Hp mods. I had one good reply about trading straight up for a 2005 Nissan short shaft 2 stroke with ss prop and 30 Hp mods. The man said he had done all the work himself and he stated he done the following..."I did changed the restricter plate on the Carb to the 30 and turned the timing screw to the 30...done by manufacturer instructions." He claims the motor will push his xpress boat of the same size at 33 mph with two people and gear. I have no clue about outboard motors at all and would like the opinion of some of the outboard guru's out there like yall. Any information would be helpful I'm really just looking to see if the deal would even be worth looking at. Thanks for you're time.

If that engine is in good shape as your 4 strokes engine, and burning more gasoline is not a budget issue, go for it, 2 strokes are much easier to fix, maintain than 4 strokes, forget about oil & oil filter change, valve adjustments, timming belt change, etc. Much better to have that extra punch available at throttle end while wearing a 25 HP sticker on cowl....(Thumbs Up)

Check your tach. There is no such thing as "stock with factory aluminum prop". There is a whole range of props for that motor, and they can be specified when ordering from Tohatsu America. You want to verify correct WOT RPM to be sure that you have the correct prop for your setup. What weight is there in the boat? What is the pitch of your current prop? I'm assuming that you have a 3-carb MFS25A, right? If so, go through the carbs to make sure they are properly cleaned, and the sync is correct.

a 25hp should push a loaded 1548 just fine. I'd be willing to bet that your motor isn't running at full power for some reason. I have wakeboarded behind a 1548 war eagle with a 25hp 4 stroke suzuki (I weigh 220lbs), with two guys in the boat, and the 25 was plenty of motor. look into finding out if there is some simple problem limiting your engine's power before swapping motors. nissans are great outboards.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'm going to end up keeping the 4 stroke and just putting a ss prop on it and see what that does. Thanks again.

Remember that you must do on-water testing to determine the correct pitch. Also... SS props flex less, so can behave as a steeper pitch than their aluminum cousins.
