Does anyone have any experience with these motors? Are they a good motor or somthing to stay away from?

I hear they are excellent motors. Many here on the forum have them and really like them.

Use the red search button at the top of the page. There is alot of info that has been posted regarding user experiences here. Us Nissan/ Tohatsu faithful are a minority here, but very loyal for a reason. Reliability has been their hallmark.

Justaintright,

Zmans correct, do a search and you will find a LOT of information. As for the quality, and durability issues, they are pretty tough. Tohatsu has been rebranding their outboards for some time now such as their 2 stroke 5 hp. Its been sold as a "Mercury" since the late 80's. As a testament, dont you think Mercury would have designed its own 5 hp if the one they were selling had bad reviews? Do some searching and you'll be amazed to find the degree of "integration" of the tohatsu product among the big players.

The only downside is the sometimes lack of a dealer near by. But besides that, they are a durable and reliable outboard. And just for an FYI, Nissan is a rebadged Tohatsu, not the other way around. You'll pay about 50 bucks more for the nissan decal at the dealer and a 100 plus more for the Mercury Decal :)

Nav
