Hi All,
I just got my first boat which is a 2011 nitro z6. The issue I'm having is the steering is very hard turning left or right. Did some research and could be the steering cable. Planning on switching it out for a Teleflex Rotary. Does anyone know what size I would need to get? Meaning the length of cable? Also has anyone ever installed one of these on their nitros before? Results? Thanks

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,...... A bad cable on a 2011 boat don't sound right, they usually last much longer than 5 years,....

Have ya unhooked the motor, 'n tried it,..??

Have ya greased the swivel tube on the outboard,..??

The only way to know the length, is Measure it,....

Welcome aboard.

Never changed a steering cable on a Nitro, but it's the same as any other boat. Cables are usually marked with the length stamped on either ens. Take a look. If you can't find a marking, look at the Controls and Steering section of the iboats store. There is a How To Measure toward the bottom of the page.

As far as changing it out, tie some heavy twine on one end and pull. To put the new one in, use the twine to pull back the other way. How it works after the new new and cable are installed? Like buttah!

Before jumping on the cable, disconnect it on the motor end and make sure the motor swivels easily from side to side. Just a quick check to see if swivel isn't causing the hard steering.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in response. I found out my cable length is 13 ft. Also staying with the rack option since that's how it comes stock. I did disconnect it from the motor and motor turns easily and smooth. So I'm pretty sure its could be a bad cable. The previous owner wasn't a great care taker of the boat. I'm planning on doing the cable tomorrow and I will update, but looking at the route of pulling and putting in the new cable looks like a pain in the a$$. Nitro doesn't seem to like to make it easy :)
