hello, first time poster, long time reader, my problem is the third cylinder is flooding with gas 87 force 85 hp model no 856x7b, ok just a little history, i discovered the motor was running on two cylinders, come to find out bad trigger wire was broken at the base for the third cylinder, i replaced the trigger and while i was at it i also rebuilt the fuel pump, changed the check valve in it , rebuilt carbs floats parrel to base while inverted, new puddle drain gaskets and screens, check valves check out ok. it runs beautiful on two cylinders, just a tap of the key and fires right up,idles perfect, throttles up just fine. after ungrounding the third cylinder spark plug wire and putting it back on the plug all kind of issues start going on. starter has a really difficult time turning, binds and will not start. while third plug wire hooked up, i pulled the puddle drain hose off while cranking at the base of the drain and i get fuel coming out of the bottom port that the hose connects to, i go back to grounding the plug wire, get two squirts of fuel and were back running on two really nicely. got good spark on all three, at idling hits at tdc, static timing at 28, good vacum on recirculating system, reeds are fine, primer bulb when pumped stays hard, good fuel, idle mixture screws set at a little over three quarters, anyone have any ideas on what to look for, thanks in advance don

Pull the float bowl bottom carb recheck the float level.
Recheck the inlet needle, may not be sealing off the gas when the carb is full.

maxum, thanks for the advice you were right heavy float on bottom carb, replaced float and no more flooding, but come to find out i really had two problems. I changed my trigger and that was also part of my problem i have a 87 force 85 hp that had the terminals for a terminal block on the plate for the modules & coils, the trigger i replaced it with was from a 86 model with the push together connectors i cut the terminals off and wired directly to terminal block. Come to discover the the color code for cylinders 2&3 are reversed on the trigger, so you have to swap them at the terminal block, to get the proper firing order so any one who"s gonna use an older trigger check the color code on the trigger. After doing this all problems solved she now runs like a new motor, thanks
