Please help, My alarm horn does not sound on my 1988 Mariner L6 115 HP when the key is switched on. Would someone please tell me what this means and how I can troubleshoot this. It had been working but now will not. Thanks in advance.

You might want to check out the buzzer to make sure it still works before getting into more expensive items. Always work from the least expensive items to the more costly ones.

Re: No Alarm at Start

Thank you dingbat and Capt Ken, can one of you tell me how to check the module and the buzzer? I have the Quick Silver control with the push-in key choke. I also have the Mercury Auto-blend oil system, would you recommend me removing the system, it works great but after what I've read on this forum, it has me wondering. Thanks!!! :)

lgreen, allow someone used to dealing with autoblends to vent a little....remove it, put a BIG tag on your gas fill that says HEY! PUT THE OIL IN HERE! A PINT TO 6! you should have been having this autoblend service at least every 3-4 years, new diaphrams, filters etc....something that costs just over a $100....otherwise you are lookig at a failure of the autoblend that will eat your motor....these things were put on engines by the marketing guys, not the engineers...a stopgap system on the way to real oil injection, whose time has passed....

Re: No Alarm at Start

Thanks ODDD1, I pulled the auto-blend out today and will pre-mix 50/1. I feel a lot safer this way anyhow. I am still hoping someone will assist me in troubleshooting my alarm module and buzzer. If I added a PSI or water temp gauge, would the alarm module still be useful since I removed my autoblend?

Re: No Alarm at Start

Thanks to all who responded. I purchased a Seloc manual that left a lot to be desired. Their wiring diagrams did not match what I had. They did not include the high temp sender wiring or show the alarm buzzer in the controls. After taking the controls apart, found bad connection, working great. PS..If anyone removes the Mercury Auto-blend system from their boats, the alarm module is mounted on the auto-blend tank housing and you will loose your self test if you do not remove and connect back the module to the wiring.
