Hi, I've just bought a Fling with an Evinrude 115HP TurboJet...amazing little fun boat. But, after starting the engine, I disconnected one of the Battery leads and put my Multimeter across the leads and No Voltage from the engine to charge the battery....so now I'm using a solar charger to keep battery charged. Now, what can the problem be and how can I fix it. Where I live therte are no service centers and I won't have my Service Manuals for another 10 days or so. Thanks in advance for you advice. Nigel.

Try putting the voltmeter on the battery terminals with the cables hooked up to the engine like it would normally be connected while running. If you read 14+ volts your system should be charging. If less than 12 you're not.

Im no expert but my understanding of the charging system generally is that the battery cant be disconnected from a running motor without causing severe damage to the system?

More than likely, the rectifier is shot. Never disconnect a battery cable while the motor is running. It will burn out the rectifier in a heartbeat. What year motor is it?
