no beep?

I have an '03 Mercury 75 classic (2-stroke) starting serial number 'OT' that is connected to a Quicksilver Commander 2000 series remote control. This motor does not have a warning module on it, but there are the typical tan/blue wires between the low oil sensor, the temperature switch, and the warning horn located in the remote control. I tested the warning horn and I know it works, but there is no 'self test' beep when I turn the key on.

Can anybody tell me if this is normal? I have read through the entire manual and it doesn't clarify...
