I took my 1996 Mariner 3.0L 225 outboard to the mechanic and he called me today. I have no compression in cylinder 3. He wants $4100 for the repair. It is a total rebuild of all the cylinders and one year warranty. I have limited fund and i was in the dog house for the original purchase. I have read it is not worth the cost to rebuild, but I can't afford a new engine.

Would it be worth my time just to fix the one cylinder?

How much are the parts worth to rebuild the engine? I tried pricing online and it looked to be between $2500 and $3500.

Help!

Re: No compression in cylinder 3

Need to find out what caused it to fail and a 3.0L can be tricky to repair....
