I fired up my old Meccury 50 hp that had been sitting for several years. It started right up, but no cooling water is spraying out. Does any one have some idea's that i could do before I have to take it in?

Re: no cooling water?

If your mechanicly inclined buy a OEM manual and if you have problems we can talk you through it. Its probably a 1 or 1 1/2 hour charge and $25 parts dependlng on the shop

spray some air up the "pee" hole while running the motor.....maybe something is blocking the hole-mud daubers-bugs etc....if you don't have a compressor use garden hose

Check your tel tale for blockage and look at doing a water pump over haul or atleast change your impeller. More then likely your tel tale is just plugged.

Re: no cooling water?

when you start the motor should water come out right away, or is the a thermostat that starts the pump. Do the last 2 numbers on the id indicate the year of mfg? 72? If so can you tell me the part # for a new pump kit.

thanks so much. great site!
