On the 3.0L I just looked at and agreed to buy. I did notice that there is no dipstick or even tube that I can see. It’s a ‘89 model with the short lived DIS ignition. I stupidly forgot to take a picture of the serial numbers. Is there a sight tube? The guy said he just changes it every year with the spec amount

All 3.0 have a dipstick

Look starboard side for a hole
I know where it ‘should’ be. I spent probably 5 minutes searching. I didn’t see a tube or hole. I was really scratching my head. I’ll have to really check it out when I get it.

Most the 3.0 has the stick coming out of the upper side of oil pan
Could be pan was replaced

Could be. It looks ‘different’ than normal 3.0l’s with the DIS coil right where the breaker switch usually is, and then the distributior isn’t there so my reference points are a little off along with the dog house on that one being a little hard to work around.

I pick the boat up in 2 weeks. I’ll have to inspect it when I get it back. It has an inline fuel filter that runs up to the carb that is rather large ( will be removed ). I suspect that it’s behind that and I just didn’t see it

Maybe it had the tube that goes along the side all the way down to the bottom of the oil pan and down there instead of a a simple screw in bolt there is ( or used to be ) a connection to the tube. I had this on a 1989 block. It is so you can suck the oil out when changing the oil.

I noticed the transmission dip sticks first. Seems the US manufacturers still give you an oil dipstick. But those darn Germans have been cheating us for almost 20 years. (have a BMW i take care of without any, pain in the ass)

My old 2001 gmc has a message appear when it's down a quart but still have a dipstick. All this electronic stuff in a wet marine environment just seems crazy.

Just wait till your vehicle gets older and has a few auto trans fluid leaks, that climb underneath and add fluid right next to the cat converter will make you full of rage toward the fools who made that choice. "They never leak" yeah right.
As for me my 2 old Jeeps have dipsticks. How quaint! You can even use the vacuum pump to suck out much of the fluid in the pan so if there's no drain plug you don't make such a mess.
