No Fire

I have no spark on my mercruiser. I have changed the the coil and still no spark. Is there a neutral switch on the throttle that will cause no spark or do I need to look for something grounding out. Sorry the boat is a 1988 glassport with a 3.0 mercruiser.

Turn the ignition to the run position, then check at the coil and see if you have power to the coil.<br />If you do, it may be the points. How long since they were changed along with the rest of the tuneup. Points, condenser, cap, rotor, plugs, timing check. You know the usual routine maintenance.

I have power to the coil. As far as the routine maintenance, I have owned the boat 2 seasons and this will be the third and I have yet to change the Points, condenser, cap, rotor. I have changed the plugs, oil, filter, and outdrive oil every year before I winterize it. I just pulled the cover off to start it for the first time after the winter and No spark.

corrosion/oxidation on the points themselves. go thru it every year with mine. either change the points or clean them.other than that, the safety lanyard cut-off at the helm, bad shift interupter or its not centered.

Do what Don says and give it a tune up. If the points arent working correctly the coil will not fire. Been there, done that......

Why is it that we always try everything first before the points. They're one of the least expensive items and they should be done annually or semi-annually anyway. I've done the same thing, so like Jeff...been there. It sounds like points, even though they look ok...

I changed the condensor and cleaned up the points and way it went. Did not replace the points because they didn't have them. Ordered them. Be in on Tuesday. Thanks for all the help.
