Good evening folks. Background info. I had a 1974 Evinrude 50hp(red plug) on my Glastron tri hull. Johnson controls of unknown vintage. Everything worked great. Sold the motor to get bigger motor. Purchased a old Manatee with a 1978 Evinrude 85 hp(red plug). It had a black OMC control box, red plug as well. Everything works on it. I put a new water pump assembly,tilttube,bushings,2 new coils and rebuild the 85 hp carbs. The OMC controls were ugly,so I kept my Johnson controls. I then took it to the local mechanic to get him to hook the cables up,the eletrical and tune her up. He called me a little while ago and said no fire on any of the cylinders. He asked if i wanted him to dig in or just come get it. Needless to say i chose the latter. I am working on the road so I cannot get it until friday. Just trying to get opinions and suggestions on this. My first shot when I get home will be to unplug Johnson andplug in OMC. If that does not work can I disconnect all controls, removed and ground plugs, jump the relay to check for spark? Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

The first thing to do is disconnect the black/yellow wire from the power pack. If no spark you have a motor problem. If you have spark you have a wiring problem.

well i got lucky and got a load by the housse so i picked up the boat today. Checked for spark myself. Mechanic said i had none. I ( go figure)got spark on both port cylinders. None on starboard. So I swap plugs and starboard side is still not sparking. So then I move each port coil to starboard and vice versa. Starboard side is still dark. Used OMC and Johnson set of controls and got same results.Opine please?
