Re: No FWD or REV

If no shift at all, I would suspect either a broken upper shift connector (connects shift handle to shift rod) or maybe the coupling mid-way down the let (behind the oval cover) has come undone. Both are fairly easy to check. Remove the two screws holding the cover on the leg and see what happens when you move the shift handle. If NO movement at all, then the upper connector is broken/disconnected. If the upper shift rod moves but the lower does not, then the brass coupling is broken/disconnected.

I finally got into it last night, it's the pin that goes through the drive shaft at the propeller. I believe it's some sort of shear pin and is suppose to fail before more damage is done to the drive, i.e. if you hit a stump or other what not's. It was in 4 peices. I am pretty sure it is #4 on this diagram (pin, drive, propeller).

I would think your local outboard shop should have something onhand.. Often they'll have some bulk stock and cut off whatever lengths you need...

I just bought a 6' rod of appropriately sized brass from ACE hardware for less than $10, then cut shear pins to length. One rod is enough for a lifetime of pins. I have about a dozen spare shear pin in my boat now and over 4' of rod left. Use a drill bit to get the right size for the pin, then take it with you to the hardware store to make sure the rod matches.

that's an idea. My concern is that the pin needs to fail before the driveshaft does. I ordered a replacement, 2 for $4 something shipped. Not bad.
