96 Johnson, 60 hp 3cd, engine won't run under load when put the throttle to it in gear, rev's high in new, but does cough n sputter alittle. I checked fuel line, fuel good fresh, mixed correct, fuel getting to carbs, Pulled plugs, 1 okay, but two were blackish and oily, haven't got to checking spark yet, as it happened on water. (As usual it ran fine the day before), any thoughts on this. (sorry no serial/ model I lost the number, need to go look again)

Did you check the prop hub? May have spun a prop and the shaft is spinning out causing a fludding problems with the fuel ie your sputtering problems. If not, may be trah in carbs. Be sure to follow the book and pull all jets, use gas to clean, air to blow them out.

:D

I would check spark on all cylinders, The fouled plug could cause no spark condition. The engine will sound alright at idle even if all cylinders are not firing, until you put load on it.

I have had a similar condition in the past.

The actual problem was a bad spark plug wire.

Good Luck!
