Hi Folks,
I have a new MG bow mount and have been trying to get help on adjusted the very loose steering tension. I could not find help here after two posts, so I called Motor Guide in Tulsa, OK and explained my problem. They said a dealer could fix the problem, but could not tell a customer how to do it!!!! I told them there are no Motor Guide dealers in Massachusetts and she replied that too bad......I was so mad I told her I will only buy Minn-Kota from now on. Anyone else have problems with this outfit?? Wally

Re: No help on Motor Guide unit???

Since no one has replied......
Which model do you have?
And what do you mean by "loose steering tension" ?
I have a Motorguide 736 (36lb bow mount) I just searched & it appears to have been made around 2000.
The only problem I have is with the mount bracket itself. I find it has a bit too much movement in it when I start at speeds 4 & 5 (5 speed motor) Other then that it's perfect.

Explain more what it's doing & I'm sure someone here can help you.
Good luck!

Re: No help on Motor Guide unit???

Hi Folks,
I posted several days ago but could not get a reply, trying again. I have a new Motor Guide FreshWater Bow mount 54lbs, 50" shaft. It has a breakaway mount. When I go to let it over the side or more importantly bring it in, it just spins around wacking the bow. To get it to lay in its horizontal position on the mount, I have to press down and hold the foot pedal at that exact position or it spins. Instructions for that model show nothing on adjusting the tension. It does show it for the ES Tour model only. Motor guide website has no email support and no dealers listed in Massachusetts. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Wally
Ok. Now it makes sense to me.
Wally. My motor does the exact same thing. When I raise it from the water, the motor does spin & put the front of the motor down towards the base. Once I get the front of the motor resting on the base I then just grab the shaft & turn it to put it horizontal & then I can put it all the way down. It does the same thing when I lower it. Once it has enough room to spin, it does.
I just checked my motor (I keep it inside my house) It doesn't appear to be adjustable.
Personally I like the "loose" steering as I found it's easier to control while in the water.
