Hi there,
I just bought a 92 20' Bayliner Capri with a MerCrusier 5.0 305 SN 0D712714 I bought it knowing there were issues with getting it started, but when I turned the key it did crank so I went for it. I would turn the key and the helm lights came on and the guages responded and if I turned all the way the engine would crank. I installed a radio so i would have something to listen to while working on the boat and accidently crossed the hot and ground while wiring everything up which blew a fuse. Fixed that and now have sound. I messed around with the throttle just to see if it looked like it was working and it was. I later went to try to turn the ignition on and nothing. I attempted the troubleshooting as mentioned in the adults only section and when I touched the light to the red or the yellow while starting I got nothing on either one. What should I try next?

Thanks,
Eric

Re: No juice

Under the dash, you should have a red wire with a purple stripe going to the B terminal of the ignition switch. Somewhere under there is a fuse in that wire that you probably blew out.

Re: No juice

Well I went and checked that and I did not see an inline fuse but it did go direct to the fuse panel and I check the fuse which was OK, but the funny thing is when I was under the dash I noticed the lights were on in the dash panel and I turned the key it started to turn and then kaput, so I am guessing there is a short or just a loose wire somewhere. I also have another question. Can you tell me what year the motor is by the serial number?

Thanks again

Check to make sure all of your battery cables are in good condition and the are on the battery with a clean tight connection. Ditch the winguts and use real nuts and a wrench to tighten.

Check the B terminal on the ignitions switch with a meter, do you have battery voltage there?
