No Need to Decarb this Merc

Well, I may have had my curiousity answered about this decarb thing.

Just came back from the "FAQ" section and learned a couple of things about it and why it is or is not needed. Like 20 hrs and killing it lugging vs 500 hrs and still purring by keeping the rpm's up.

Seems that I haven't had to do it cause I run big mils (relatively speaking.....withing BIA rules) on small, light, fast hulls and don't run her at the firewall for more than a few minutes at a time; and firewall is usually above the recommended upper rpm limit....like 6k is the average of the last 4 engines; 3 Mercs and 1 OMC. Get her up on plane fast and throttle back to 4 to 5k rpm and putt along. Never troll, and live in Texas. What'd I miss. Grin.

Makes sense to me.

Mark

Gasoline. A lot depends on the quality of the gas you use. Some gasolines have ethanol or MTBE added and that produces more carbon than straight gas. The oil used also has a big effect as some have more anti-carboning agents than others.
