No Oil Alarm

I have a 1989 Johnson 150 with VRO. Recently the "no oil alarm" sounded while I was running. I stopped the motor and used my kicker to get back in. I have tightened all fuel & oil line connections, examined all hoses & primer bulbs for both the oil & fuel. I premixed and took it out again. I still get the alarm BUT the oil in the VRO tank goes down at about the correct rate (used 1 quart oil for about 13 gallons of gas). This leads me to believe that the VRO is functioning as it should yet I still get the alarm.
Could the alarm side of the vro pump be bad? Any other ideas? I know I could bypass the vro & premix but I'd rather use the vro if I can have confidence in it.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Backlash

Re: No Oil Alarm

Did you try squeezing the oil primer bulb Backlash? Are we sure the oil is being used out of the reservoir?

Is the alarm an urgent 1/2 sec tone every 1/2 second?

Re: No Oil Alarm

Thanks for responding OBJ. Yes, I didn't mention it, but I purged the oil line of air (disconnected oil line at vro pump and squeezed primer bulb a couple of times). I filled the vro tank, marked the full line with a sharpie, and ran it for the day (using pre-mix as previously stated). It took right about one quart to bring the vro tank back up to the full line and I used about 11 gallons of gas (close estimate).
The motor isn't overheating, good water flow, runs like a champ....BUT the No Oil Alarm sounds!

Yes, that's the alarm... It'll start and run for a couple of minutes, at idle, then the alarm starts sounding. It doesn't stop no matter what rpm its running at either.

Re: No Oil Alarm

First thing you want to do is check all the oil lines to the pump. Make sure the lines are tight at the connection points. If your sucking a little air at one of the connections, that could cause the constant alarm. Also make sure the fuel lines are also in good shape and tight. Maybe just me but a quart for 11 gals of gas seems a might high.....again maybe just me.

But start with the supply lines to the pump....replace any that are hard and have lost their plyability. Stap clamps at connections points are a good idea.

Re: No Oil Alarm

One other thing Backlash, make sure if you replace any lines, get the correct size. The lines should fit on the connection nipples very tightly. Hope this solves the problem!
