OK here it comes.....
Bought boat ran on lake fisrt time was running fine and then wouldn't start, checked oil found water in the oil. Drained flushed the whole thing got the oil looking good went to run it again on the lake and would not go over 2200 RPM. Noticed some slight tapping thought it was a lifter got progresively worse. Check oil pressure guage: wasnt showing any.
Putted in and put on the trailer picked a mechanical pressure guage on the way home and sure enough no oil pressure.
So question is can no oil pressure prevent the engine from running any higher?
Oh sorry... It a 84' Merc 5.7(GM not Ford) with a Alpha one Gen 1

No oil pressure will surely keep the engine from running wot, and burn up the engine. My guess is you lost compression due to the motor running without oil.:confused:eek:

Of coures it will, (Your max rpm will vary).
Not only don't you have lube to the bearings and they are probably trying to sieze up, but the lifters are collapsing so they can't let the air in and out of the engine.

You need a new engine!

100% sure you got the oil gauge in the right spot? I wouldn't think you'd last long without ANY oil pressure.
