Crab.... Possibly the water telltale outlet is clogged with sald or some foriegn substance, Run a solid piece of wire through it to see if that clears it up. This is a common problem with all outboards which have that telltale outlet.

I had a motor like that, ocassional water flow. Found a small peice of shell the was stuck in the outlet hole that would work like a 1 way valve. Just big enough to move yet not come out.

Re: no pee water

I havent had this problem yet with my outboard since I've owned it, but yeah everyone is right. You gotta make sure to unclear the "pee hole" as soon as possible. My uncle says that if you run the engine and water is NOT coming out of that hole, then STOP THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY and clear it using the methods posted above. If the water isnt draining, then the water isn't flowing throughout the engine as it should and could possibly burn it up. Look into it a little more or wait for more experienced boaters to reply to your post. Hope I could help, a bit.

Crab bait,

Take off the cowling and trace the "telltale" hose back to the block and/or head.

Make sure it is not kinked. You should be able to remove both ends and blow through it. Don't forget to check the fitting (where it exits the lower cowl pan) for obstructions too.

If that doesn't work, you may have to remove the fitting from the engine and make sure that's clear too.

crab bait, after you take djohns19’s advice I would suggest a few beers. That always seems to get the pee started. :D

Crabby, I couldn’t resist it, I had to do it. :D

Crab bait use an air compressor and blow air back through the outlet. 15 to 20 psi should do it. We get mud doppers here that like to make nests in the outlet end.

Just to dispell a myth before it gets started. A clogged up telltale tube will not hurt your engine if run like that. Make darn sure that the problem is not something else though.
