Hey, my friend just bought a triton 2002 186, and talked to me earlier and said it wouldnt start so i go over there, and he has no power at all going anywhere from his starting battery, the trolling motor works still works though off the other 2 batteries. We tried a different battery also, still nothing...not even a faint beep or horn...absolutely no power to anything console or engine related.... not even trim on the side of the motor. I didn't have a test light but it was getting dark and didnt have much time anyway. I guess my main question is, ive heard boats now have breakers?? All of mine have been to old for these i guess... Also i guess is it possible that a battery switch couldve tripped itself somewhere?? Could anyone tell me where these might be??? He said he talked to a local marine and they said it was in the back...but reading another post i saw someone said theirs was in a bow storage compartment...??? Thanks-David.

Welcome to the iboats.com boating forum!!:):)
Most main breakers are in the back near the power source(battery). Does your friends boat have a battery switch that is currently in the off position? Or possibly the battery switch was designed for 2 batteries and is set to use the now non-existent second starting battery? It should be something simple like a fuse, breaker, ground wire not connected to motor, etc.

If this is an outboard, remove the cowl and look for the main fuse. It is usually installed in a water tight holder. If that fuse is ok, you need to look at battery connections and cable condition. Since you have a battery switch, make sure it is not in the OFF position. The engine should start in the BAT 1, BAT 2 or BOTH settings if it is wired normally.
