I have been having aproblem starting my boat after sitting for a few days. If I run a jumper wire to the fuel pump I can get it to run, then it will start right up. I want to fix it before I put it away.
The fuel pump has a purple/yellow wire that comes froma small post on the starter solenoid (on the starter).

THere is also a black wire that I have not traced back. I am not sure if it is a ground or a second power feed.

I have read through a lot of posts and have learned there are two feed. One for start up and one for running. I assume the the purple/yellow wire from the soleniod provides power when the key is turned on. Is that correct? SHould the pump run as soon as the key is in the "on" position?

I read that it may be the oil pressure sensor but I dont think that would come into play until the engine is running.

I am trying to determine if I should pull the starter and have the solenoid serviced (I have a shop nearby).

The boat is a 98 bayline capri with a 4.3 engine.

Wrong assumption, the purple yellow wire powers the fuel pump only while the starter is running. When the engine is running, power to the pump comes through the oil pressure switch.
Here is a drawing to help explain it.

Great picture.
I will have someone turn the key while I check for power at the starter.

If the boat runs fine once started, does that mean the oil pressure switch is good?
