I have a two battery system on a one year old boat with a yamaha 150 4 stroke motor. Battery one is cranking and battery two is deep cycle. It is equipted with a perko model 8501 selector switch. I have no power in position 1. In position 2 or all I have power. I have recharged and tested battery 1 and it is fully charged. I have also checked all conections too and from battery switch and all appear tight with no corosion. Is it possible to test the battery switch and if so how? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: no power from battery 1

Just takes a voltmeter. If you have voltage going in and nothing going out, you have a bad switch.

Or measure the voltage across the switch in position 1. If you have 12 volts between the output and battery 1 you have a bad switch.

Or disconnect the battery and check resistance across the switch between the battery 1 terminal and the output terminal. If 0 ohms it is good, it not it is bad.

Swap the wires between switch terminals 1 and 2. If the problem is still evident in Pos 1, it's the switch. If the problem migrates to position 2, it's in the battery wiring.

Do you normaly use the battery switch? If so....
Is it normaly used in OFF and ALL? Have you used position 1 or 2 before? If not check to see if the switch is wired correctly. Could have been wrong from the factory.

Re: no power from battery 1

found that the switch was wired wrong and all power was comming from deep cycle battery that was not being recharged from motor. I reversed the leads to switch, recharged battery 2 and all seems well thanks for the advise. Rivercat
